Abstract :
In this paper we discuss the motivation for integrating wireless local area networks (WLANs) with third-generation (3G) cellular networks, and we briefly describe two key architectural approaches for such integration. In addition, we introduce a specific approach for tightly coupling a WLAN with GPRS networks and we describe is main characteristics, such as the protocol architecture and the key functional procedures.
