Abstract
Residual stress plays an important role in determining arterial wall stress and wall remodeling. We studied the effect of collagenase treatment on the opening angle of arteries. Our results demonstrated that collagenase treatment significantly reduced the opening angle of arteries and diminished the effect of smooth muscle contraction on the opening angles. Changes in opening angle need to be considered in studying arterial wall stress and buckling associated with wall remodeling and diseases.
