Abstract :
A novel low-voltage 0.35 mum CMOS variable gain amplifier (VGA) is proposed in this paper for intermediate- frequency (IF) strips. The proposed circuit is based on a multiplier cell with improved linearity and consumes only 1.5 mA from a single 1.8 V power supply voltage. It shows 36 dB of continuous gain setting with a linearity error below 1 dB and an almost constant bandwidth of 200 MHz. The third-order intermodulation distortion (IM3) is below -68 dB for a 0.4 Vpp 50 MHz differential output signal. The input-referred noise is 12 nV/sqrt(Hz) under maximum gain setting and 200 MHz bandwidth.
