  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Switching times of a single-domain particle with uniaxial anisotropy were calculated under axially symmetric conditions by means of a numerical solution of Brown´s Fokker-Planck equation with a finite difference method. The material parameters used were: magnetization M/sub s/=300 emu/cm/sup 3/, volume v=10/sup -18/ cm/sup 3/, anisotropy field H/sub k/=10/sup 4/ Oe and Gilbert´s damping constant /spl alpha/=0.1. Initially the angles of the magnetization direction were distributed according to a Boltzmann distribution with an applied field H directed to the +z direction. Then the applied field was reversed to the -z direction. The switching time t/sub s/ is defined as the time when the integral of the probability density over /spl theta/ from 90/spl deg/ to 180/spl deg/ becomes 0.5.
