  • Abstract
This talk will focus on new technologies for multi mode client devices, and how these technologies can extend the service providers revenue model. The goal is keeping cost of delivery of services low while providing new applications for the emerging breed of client platforms. Wireless technology is becoming pervasive, with several new standards being added to the handheld cellular paradigm. While single-protocol solutions still dominate, portable, multi-mode wireless is already here. The market is primed for mass introduction of multi-mode wireless. However, to reach this point multi-mode platforms will likely need costs and performance exhibited by single standard solutions. Many ingredients will need to be perfected to achieve these goals and one primary realization will be that CMOS will no longer equate with digital: RF/analog will be just as ubiquitous in CMOS. Another consequence of the need to bring together a large number of disparate technologies is that it may limit the number of players. The technical challenges are increasing barriers to entry, and companies with the largest portfolios of technologies will likely benefit
