Abstract
The use of wireless technology by local exchange carriers (LECs) to provide loop access to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) in an urban environment is described. Specifically, the feasibility of replacing the copper drop wire running from the telephone pole to the customer´s premises with a radio link is discussed. The wireless loop access concept and the external factors affecting the possible implementation of this concept are reviewed
