Abstract :
Summary form only given. Topology optimization of air-lubricated slider bearings, having too many design variables (more than 10,000), needs analytical DSA. However, the conventional DSA method, used in FEM based structural optimization, cannot be directly employed in this problem since the coefficient matrix of the discrete governing equation is not only asymmetric but also highly nonlinear. Thus, this study proposes an extended DSA formulation for air-lubricated slider bearings by introducing an adjoint variable method.
