Abstract :
Summary form only given. The authors investigate the formation of bcc-like strips in 1, 3 and 6 ML Fe/Cu[100] films. Our calculations have been performed using the plane-wave code VASP. The structure can be described as resulting from a monoclinic shear along the [100] direction, so that the local atomic arrangement resembles an [110] bcc film. The total energy against shear deformation is plotted.
