Abstract
Summary form only given. Optical communications, optical Internet, and information processing need switches for redirecting the information flow in different channels. To date a large variety of optical switches, have been developed. Magnetooptical switches combine a comparatively short switching time and low insertion loss with the latching type of operation (i.e. they consume energy only during the switching).
