Abstract
Summary form only given. Magnetostriction (/spl lambda/) as well as magnetic properties and internal stress in 3% Si-Fe grain oriented magnetic sheet were examined under non-uniform temperature distribution in a single sheet. /spl lambda/ is generally accepted to be the noise source of electromagnetic machines, which is particularly sensitive to compressive stress. Cores in operating electromagnetic machines are exposed to elevated temperature by losses where temperature gradient is inevitable between the inside and the surface. Nevertheless, /spl lambda/ or /spl lambda/-B characteristics have not been investigated until now under non-uniform temperature distribution, though /spl lambda/ was previously, (Eadie et al. 1982), measured at uniformly elevated temperatures up to 200/spl deg/C.
