The authors present approaches developed within their organization for achieving improvements in the software engineering process. They discuss the contextual issues which act as a barrier to change, assess the current position with respect to the deployment of software enabling technology, present techniques for mapping current performance against state of best practice and identify issues involved in implementing an effective improvement program
