Abstract :
A new multi-section single-disc electromagnetic clutch is presented. Based on the introduction of the operation principle of the clutch, the necessity of adopting the multi-section structure friction for the clutch is certificated by the simplified magnetic circuit analysis. The linear analysis results show that this structure is very suitable when the working air gap of the clutch is very small. Finally the nonlinear analysis with the finite element method verified the linear analysis results. The optimizations of the exciting coil illustrate the high force density capability of the new structure.
