Abstract :
A promising approach to efficient channel assignment is the virtually fixed channel assignment (VFCA) method. In VFCA, the channels are nominally assigned as in conventional fixed assignment schemes, but cells are allowed to borrow channels from one another. An analytical model is developed for a cellular telephone system that uses VFCA, where the channel assignment process of a cell in the system is modeled as a two-dimensional Markov chain. The analytical results are compared with simulation results, and the model is shown to be an efficient tool for evaluating performance and traffic characteristics of VFCA system
