Abstract :
This paper presents the results of a major voltage stability study. The paper focuses on a detailed discussion of load modeling as it pertains to voltage stability studies in large power systems. Though much literature is available on the behavior of power system loads, because of the complexity and potential variation in load behavior, the use and impact of detailed load modeling has seldom been reported for studies of large power systems. This paper presents the application of detailed load modeling to a study of a large power system and goes further to investigate the application of sensitivity analysis. The results presented give general conclusions that show the sensitivity of study results to various load assumptions and thus provide insight into how criteria may be established to plan and reliably operate a system.
