Abstract :
This study has demonstrated injection locking on a multimode (MM) VCSEL with multiple locking ranges of each of the transverse modes. Resonance frequency improvement is achieved when locking is on the 1st and fundamental transverse modes. Similar improvement can be expected on the 2nd order mode as well but not demonstrated here due to the tuning range limit of the master laser. Numerical simulations of two-mode MM VCSEL also show separated locking ranges for each of the transverse modes. Rate equations including more than two modes and small-signal modulation can be used to simulate the experimental observations more accurately. Furthermore, experimental data over a full locking stability plot at various injection ratios will be taken and shown at the conference to confirm the theoretical results.
