Abstract :
Summary form only given. Using a ring head and perpendicular media with soft under-layer (SUL), linear densities as high as 750 KBPI have be achieved. In this study, a finite-element analysis (FEA) was performed on both a ring head and single-pole type (SPT) head on perpendicular media with SUL. Consistent with the empirical results, excellent writing performance has been obtained for the ring head and advanced SPT. All FEA models have been checked by Ampere´s law to assure that the error of field intensity is less than 4%.
