Abstract
Japan, France and Germany have developed high speed railway systems based on their own technologies. Since April 2004, Korea has been operating KTX(Korea Train eXpress). Following the successful national R&D project, Korea has recorded remarkable technological progress. However, in order to see further progress, Korea needs to continuously develop the EMU(Electric Multiple Unit) type Korean next generation high speed railway system(HEMU-400X) that can effectively respond to rapidly changing global market demands. This paper shows the development processes and main characteristics of the HEMU-400X.
