Abstract
A need for programmable networks is quickly becoming more important for simplifying and consolidating networks while increasing value, functionality, research and feature velocity, and energy efficiency without adding more boxes be they servers or network devices. This paper proposes programmable networking systems for a new network like our future Internet. Such systems are designed with open software-orientated platforms that host applications. Application development is achieved with the use of software development kits for extension in the software dimension. The Junos SDK and the Junos Space SDK facilitate innovation of the future Internet, and they can be used to considerably shorten the development cycle for the creation of technology based on embedding software into the programmable networking system.
