Abstract
The authors propose a novel protocol called slot preuse distributed queue dual bus (SP-DQDB), which is an extension of the DQDB. It increases the efficiency of the DQDB protocol by improving the utilization of the bus bandwidth in DQDB networks. The proposed protocol is particularly well-suited for the case when information transfer between neighboring nodes is more likely than that between remote nodes. Simulation was used to study the throughput performance and it was demonstrated that the maximum throughput offered by the SP-DQDB protocol may be many times greater than that of the DQDB in different environments
