Abstract
Experimental phase characteristics of the signal received in a land mobile satellite system (LMSS) link were described previously by the authors (1990). In particular, the vehicle changes of speed and direction were shown to cause frequency variations with a constant frequency rate in long periods of time. In this work, the authors compare the performance of second- and third-order phase locked loops as carrier synchronizers for these links. Theoretical implications as well as simulation results are presented
