Abstract
The general conditions affecting the development of telework in Finland and the relevant challenges and tasks for telework research are summarized. The development of telework is closely connected to the emergence of new organizational cultures which are based on flexible modes of operation and open communication along with organizational pursuits to utilize the potential offered by modern ITC technology and active human resource management in the situation of turbulent changes in business environment. Major issues in to be considered in the agenda for telework research are outlined and include: management and economics of telework; social and psychological aspects of telework; technological environment for telework; and future planning
