Abstract :
Summary form only given. A perpendicular medium with a soft underlayer (SUL) combined with a single pole head (SPH) is believed to be the most suitable system configuration for successful implementation of perpendicular recording. The influence of a SUL on the dynamic characteristics of a recording system is one of the key issues pertinent to the development of the technology. A detailed study of the SPH/SUL dynamics was conducted by D. Litvinov et al (IEEE Trans. Magn., vol. 37, no. 4, p. 1376, 2001). The present work extends this analysis to include the influence of a recording layer (RL) on the SUL dynamic characteristics.
