Abstract :
Three imperfections commonly found in transmitter power control (TPC) for direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) cellular mobile radios, faulty control of transmission power, unavailable site diversity, and nonuniform user distribution, are investigated. The effects of these TPC imperfections on the traffic capacity of the DS/CDMA mobile communications systems were evaluated through computer simulations. Also, for the TPC system, the accuracy with which the average received signal power must be measured is examined under a wideband signal transmission environment. It is shown that 90% of the traffic capacity with perfect TPC can be achieved by using received signal power measurement whose time interval is larger than eight times the inverse of the maximum Doppler frequency
