Abstract :
A multiple block coded modulation (MBCM) scheme is proposed that allocates two symbols to each branch in the trellis diagram, which is constructed using a multidimensional lattice and a set-partitioning method. This scheme achieves the same minimum squared Euclidean distance of 8 but equal or better bandwidth efficiency than using the corresponding multiple trellis coded modulation (MTCM) scheme. The proposed scheme uses maximum likelihood Viterbi decoding and provides an unequal error protection property. Computer simulation showed that the MBCM scheme provides better bit-error-rate performance than the previously proposed BCM scheme with only a slight loss in bandwidth efficiency
