Abstract :
The paper deals with spatial data as part of environmental information. It compares the main spatial data provided in Italy and Spain and it explains the role that INSPIRE directive is playing in these countries, stressing the problems that have been encountered in the way to create a common information basin in the EU. The most important difficulties are related to the lack of harmonization regarding the availability, quality, organization, accessibility and sharing of spatial information within each country.
