Abstract
The microcellular network concept implemented by optical fibers using subcarrier transmission is described. The delivery mechanism with a cross-connect switch between base stations and a central station is presented. The theoretical optical link performance is discussed. Carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) performance is also shown as a function of optical modulation index. Dynamic range improvement is proposed through the use of a frequency modulation method. Space diversity techniques are discussed for transmission between the base station and the central station using the subcarrier transmission method
