Abstract :
This document deals with the development of a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) as direct drive with outer router, for use as traction drive inside a wheel. Based on defined requirements a focus is set on the electromagnetic design with the choice of pole count and slot count for a tooth coil winding. The thermal behaviour with a self-cooling concept is introduced. The investigated prototype machine is introduced with its main data. No-load, short-circuit and load measurements are shown as well as the validation of the cooling concept, based on measurements.
