Abstract :
Wide-band radio channel measurements at 5.2 GHz using 4 transmit and 4 receive antennas with variable element spacing are reported aiming to evaluate the potential of multiple antennas at mobile terminals. We observe that, for antenna spacing d<0.5·λ(down to 0.2·λ), the link capacity is not smaller than for much larger d, due to mutual coupling between antenna elements. Compact antenna arrays may thus be practical at mobile terminals.
