Abstract :
The current from battery chargers with `medium´ ripple attenuated by leakage-field-transformers (LTs) is analyzed. LTs are wound with primary and secondary windings spaced apart on a bobbin with 2 chambers. Type UI-cores have a higher leakage inductance Ls than EI-cores, and Ls may be increased 100% by reversing one bobbin (and by using different number of turns per volt). LTs are controlled by triacs or thyristors. Their line current is `softer´ and their voltage droop is higher than usual. At the end of charging their current ripple is of the same magnitude as an ordinary rectifier with a filter choke
