Abstract :
We consider a class of MSK type pulse formats specially suited for differentially coherent demodulation. Conventional MSK when using, a differentially coherent demodulator presents a performance level well below BPSK, because the output of the bandpass matched filter exhibits intersymbol interference (ISI). In the present communication the baseband elementary pulse format of conventional MSK is modified so that the output of a bandpass matched filter is ISI free, This modification leads to a performance identical to the one of differentially coherent BPSK, which represents a significant improvement relatively to conventional MSK. Furthermore we show that within the family of modulating pulses, it is possible to design specific pulses that exhibit a significantly sharper roll-off than conventional MSK thus improving the inter-channel interference performance
