Abstract :
The integration of power equipment with switching equipment is described. It is shown how a systems approach to power can reduce maintenance while providing increased system reliability. Telecommunications equipment cannot tolerate the loss of critical DC input power. To ensure a reliable source of DC power for this, it is necessary to provide power systems that require little routine maintenance and a modular in design, providing for rapid unit replacement. A high degree of self diagnostics, combined with remote monitoring, provides the tools necessary for maintenance of this integrated power equipment. Intelligent power systems, designed with the overall system architecture in mind and located with the equipment they power, are necessary for continued overall success in the telecommunications marketplace
