Abstract :
The authors discuss questions related to power system communication with the Network Monitoring and Analysis (NMA) operating system´s X.25/TL1 interface. Power systems have generally lacked the high technology which characterizes switching systems. With the increasing demand for power system reliability and the need to reduce maintenance costs, greater emphasis is now being placed on the need for intelligent power systems with a flexible front-end for communication with NMA and possibly other protocols. Developing such a system requires the consideration for many key issues, such as system architecture, distribution of intelligence, security and flexibility
