Abstract :
This paper describes a strategy by which Montreal´s subway power peak demand can be shaved by Energy Storage Systems (ESS). It basically aims to establish the simple payback period and the lifetime brought on by three ESS technologies, Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries, Long duration Lead-Acid batteries, and high temperature sodium nickel chloride batteries, also called Zebra batteries.
