Abstract
A DC-Dc converter used as a DC amplifier for a transmitting amplifier of digital portable telephones is presented. The DC-DC converter can supply a modulated voltage to the transmitting amplifier and achieves a significantly higher efficiency by about 30% over a conventional series regulator. The higher efficiency is due to a newly developed low-dissipation control IC. It consists primarily of CMOS devices which reduce dissipation. The higher efficiency translates into a longer battery usage time. The IC minimizes the converter size since all the needed converter control functions are built in. It makes possible achieving a compact digital portable telephone with longer usage hours
