Abstract :
Handover request queueing has been proposed as protection scheme for future cellular networks and extensively analyzed. In this frame, however, the distribution of the handover dwell time-i.e. the allowed queue waiting time-has been only reasonably assumed. The paper modelizes the handover dwell time in a coverage geometry of circular cells. The satisfactory results of the modeling are compared with those obtained by simulation. A fitting of the handover dwell time distribution with a truncated gaussian function is also proposed, providing a measure of the fitting goodness in various test cases
