Abstract :
The ray tracing method is used for simulating 2-D images of earth layers that are not-flat. The purpose of this research is to detect groundwater in the desert by GPR. An interesting structure is the buried valley aquifer due to its potential for storing good quality groundwater and it is being common in the Sahara desert. The modelling included some effects such as the capillary zone and antenna directivity. Structures being non-flat cause the radar image to appear defocused. Migration by the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is applied to reverse the defocusing effects.
