Abstract :
An accurate transformation for high voltage and large current to small signals is essential for power protect, measure, and control. Traditional iron-core based Rogowski Coil is usually applied in transforming transient & large currents to small signals. High precision Rogowski Coils are designed as sensors using printed circuit boards (PCB) in the paper. The novel PCB sensor is applied for faults generated traveling waves detection. The two circuit board strips construction is presented. And the sensors´ characteristics are analyzed in detail. A new transmission line faults detection method using the PCB sensor is also proposed. EMTP simulation and prototypes test results show that the PCB sensor has less transmission delay and fits to apply in traveling wave based faults detection and location.
