Abstract :
In this paper approaches for handling large-scale power grid simulation models are presented. These problems are often computationally intractable using standard computation techniques. In this paper heuristics approaches based on problem relaxations are presented. Their efficiency is evaluated on the week and annual simulations of Czech power grid. The most efficient of the proposed methods are then utilized to decrease the computational times of European power grid model. The results show significant reduction in computational times of large power grid models comparing with standard techniques while achieving only small differences in solution quality.
