Abstract :
Transmission planning for electric power systems is a challenging task due to the problem complexity. When system reliability is considered, transmission planning becomes even more complicated. In the recent years, significant amounts of wind power are being integrated into the conventional power systems. Wind power is environmentally benign, but it is intermittent since its availability cannot be precisely predicted ahead of time. This power volatility inevitably adds more complexity to reliability-constrained transmission planning of power systems including both dispatchable and non-dispatchable energy sources. In this paper, we will extend a hybrid deterministic-probabilistic methodology to reliability-constrained transmission planning accounting for intermittent wind power, also several relevant issues are discussed. The paper is focused on the conceptual study of this topic.
