Abstract :
Controlling the level of the liquid in tanks and between tanks is a basic problem in the industries. Often the tanks are so coupled together that the levels interact and exhibits a non- linear behavior. This paper describes about the liquid level control in a coupled tank system, where the first tank controls the level of the second tank. Here comparisons between the transient responses of the conventional PID, Fuzzy and IMC (Internal Model Control) have been done, and their responses have been verified through simulation. From the simulation results, it is observed that IMC gives superior performance compared to other controllers. The software used to simulate the system is MATLAB.
