Abstract
The use of microwave frequency absorption for the online measurement of the water content of coal on a conveyor belt is investigated. Several experiments were executed and a mathematical relationship between the water percentage in the coal and the output of the detector was derived. The measuring instrument was coupled to a personal computer by means of a suitable interface. The computer was then used to determine the water content of coal samples, using the empirical mathematical relationship derived
