Abstract :
The paper treats the subject of wavelet (pyramid) decomposition and reconstruction for the purposes of image and signal compression. A new, fast and promising technique given an arbitrary low-pass filter enables us to find a corresponding high-pass filter. The decomposition and reconstruction are executed fast by employing the short recursive filters either before the reconstruction or after the decomposition. This technique was used for finding the filters producing the best results for the given support size. Three such filters are considered. The simulation results are presented in the tables and plots. They show that our 7 tap filter is better for compression than the well known 9/7 filter
