Abstract
The Radar Remote Sensing Group at the University of Cape Town is investigating the use of a distributed cluster of off-the-shelf PCs for parallel computing applications. The use of off-the-shelf components overcomes many of the problems traditionally associated with parallel computing, such as lack of scalability, vendor specific technologies and high cost. This paper presents some details of the hardware and software infrastructure being used in the research and some preliminary results achieved with the system
