Abstract
Recent changes in the energy industry initiated by deregulation have accelerated the introduction of distributed generation at the subtransmission and distribution levels. In light of the well-known benefits as well as the various issues involved in DG incorporation, this paper proposes two new quadratic voltage profile improvement indices (VPII1 and VPII2). The primal-dual interior-point (PDIP) method has been employed to identify the optimal location and real and reactive power generation on the basis of the newly proposed indices. A simplified model of a 33-bus radial distribution system has been simulated in MATLAB to illustrate the use of the new indices.
