Abstract
This paper deals with control of two mass system coupled by flexible shaft. Fast response of a linear controller produces a peak in the control which might drive the system into the forbidden domain. The main contribution of this paper is to examine, via experimental investigations of a two mass system, the engineering feasibility of an observer based discrete-time sliding mode control design to prevent the system from entering into the nonadmissible domain
