Abstract :
In this article, the different return periods of the wind speed in Huainan Area were estimated by the Thomas curve. And the function of the wind break and damping based on two styles shelterbelts along the mainstream of Huaihe River´s dikes were researched, too. The results showed that the southeast wind is the current wind in summer, the main flood season in Huainan area. The extreme wind speed for about 50 years actual measurement in Huainai Metemorological Station was close to the wind speed of 25 years return periods (the speed is 17.8m/s). And the wave height produced by the extreme wind speed was about 0.68m. According to the Putian formulation, the windbreak ratio at two styles shelterbelts reached 0.38m and 0.32m, the wave height separately reduced about 0.13m,0.46 m and the wave cycle reduced 0.56s,1.56s.
