Abstract :
The range of problems which can be solved using optical neurocomputers (ONCs) is traced, and the advantages of ONCs and methods for their realization are described. The author points out a method for the design of ONCs, and shows that the choice of architecture and ONC hardware will be conditioned by the neural network algorithm used to solve the problem and will be adequate to the algorithm structure. The author also describes an approach to estimation of the productivity of ONCs and examines prospective hardware
