Abstract :
An improved characteristic-based numerical algorithm is presented for solving the time-dependent Maxwell equations. A new term of the matrix is added to the original equations which are rewritten in vector form on a Cartesian frame to fully describe the features of the complex spatial conditions. The implicit scheme is also drawn into the formulation to separate the six field vectors. In order to better depict wave motion the three forward and backward differential methods are used according to the eigenvalues of the coefficient matrices
