Abstract :
To completely avoid the temporary depression in generator terminal voltage during rapid governor actions, this paper uses synthesized speed deviation signal obtained by means of phasor measurement as PSS input. Low-pass differential filter and discrete compensation block are designed to attenuate noises and provide phase leading respectively. The effectiveness of PSS with the proposed stabilizing signal is verified in a simulation example of a single machine - infinite bus system after subjected to different disturbances including voltage step, governor action and three-phase short circuit fault. Both hydraulic and thermal units are considered.
