Abstract :
With global energy and environmental issues becoming more and more prominent, the use of straw to produce fuel ethanol is considered as an effective way of recycling economy in the 21st century. This article describes the main process of ethanol production from straw. The second half of the article analyzes the situation of straw-ethanol industry, especially the related policies and regulations in the U.S., EU and Brazil. Comparing with the development of straw-ethanol industry in China, the problems including lower yield, great amount of fermentation inhibitors and high cost were identified. There are still many deficiencies and shortcomings in legal system. Finally, the articles put forward proposals of development of straw ethanol industry in China.
